Study: Computer games and Internet use

Computer games and the internet are attractive for many teenagers and young adults in Germany. Most of them find these offers beneficial. For others the use of computer games and the internet causes behavioral problems. For the planning and management of prevention it is important to know who and how many are affected by such problems. This was examined for the first time in the Study "The Drug Affinity of Young People in Germany". The study examines the distribution, frequency and duration of playing offline and online computer games and other uses of the Internet. In addition, it deals with the frequency of excessive and problematic behavior in the use of these offers.

In the 2011 study, a representative sample for Germany of 5,001 adolescents and young adults aged 12 to 25 years was assessed with computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI).
